I’m deep-frying a Turkey this year (as I do most years), and I thought I’d share a couple of tips and steps that we take.
- Make sure the bird is completely thawed
- Make sure your frying equipment is cleaned, dried and located away from the house. Don’t forget appropriate gloves, and you might consider using an apron while handling the bird in and out of the fryer
- Inject the bird with Tony’s injectable kit. We like Creole or Butter. Here is a link: https://www.tonychachere.com/product/tony-chacheres-creole-marinade-kit/?srsltid=AfmBOopQYVPtqRaL_FTuIvOQqr7_7y897uGH03AiOm-PciGqGwIwGH7N. I’d suggest adding a dry seasoning to the exterior of the skin as well.
- Pour the peanut oil into the appropriately sized frying pot, and turn on the burner, heat to the recommended cooking temperature, lower the bird nice and slow, maintain cooking temps for the recommended time, pull the bird and take internal temp to verify the meat is cooked, let sit 15 min or so, carve and enjoy.
a. Use caution and do research before attempting anything that you’re not familiar with. I like to use YouTube.com for all of my research before I tackle anything. To learn and or to remind myself of things I think I know, as a refresher.
